Abstract

Drawing on the Marxist critique of bourgeois political economy, this thesis empirically and theoretically analyses the political and ideological trajectory of the Labour Party from 1945-97, concentrating in particular on the Party’s reluctance in seriously changing the structures of the British (capitalist) state in the image of its (erstwhile) constituency base: the working-class.
