Abstract

Deposition of uniform and adherent diamond onto 3D substrates is highly challenging particuarly when using conventional horizontal hot filament vapour deposition. In this chapter the deposition of diamond onto wires and microdrills using a new VFCVD system has been described. In this arrangement the wire and drills were held concentrically within the core of the filament where maximum plasma intersity is prevalent. The structure and morphology studies have shown that uniform diamond films have been deposited using VFCVD. These films were tested for performance and life and the arrangements used and results obtained have been presented
