Abstract

Frank Roberts (1907–98) was an eminent British diplomat who, during a career spanning four decades from 1930, held several key ambassadorships in Europe and was involved in a host of major issues, including planning for the peace during the Second World War, the onset of the Cold War, Anglo‐American relations, and Western European integration. Roberts helped to address issues raised by Britain's transition from an independent global power to one that was a junior partner of the United States and seeking membership of the EEC.
