Abstract

In the contemporary world, characterised by extensive cross-border exchanges and movements, migration for marriage has become a global phenomenon. On the other hand, different social, political, economic and cultural contexts could also generate dissimilar outcomes. By building on the case of marriage migration across the Taiwan Strait, this study sheds light on the specificity of a phenomenon that is not only shaped by global trends and regional and national factors, but is also deeply embedded in the long-lasting relations between the People's Republic of China and Taiwan. In light of these reflections, this study holds the importance to employ an intersectional approach when exploring contemporary migration flows, as it could contribute to redefine dominant trends within the mainstream literature.
