Abstract

Sarah Ann Kennedy was asked by Jez Stewart, animation curator at the BFI to appear alongside writer and animator Candy Guard to screen their work and discuss their careers at the National Film Theatre in London. Sarah screened her previous work including Crapston Villas, Nights, Family Favourites and Honestly it's the story of my Life. Sarah was also the voice artist on Pond Life written by Candy Guard. Candy and Sarah were the first women to successfully create, write and direct their own series for TV and are in fact, the only women to create animated adult content for TV to date. There is a resurging interest in this work because of the lack of content being created by women within the adult animation genre. This follows the theme of Sarah's work where she continues to ask the question, 'Has the Feminism failed the British Animation Industry?' Where are these female voices? Where are female characters created for women?
