Abstract

This article for The Conversation is a brief discussion of the response to the removal of British citizenship from IS recruits. it briefly discusses the cases of Jack Letts, whose British citizenship was removed in August 2019, and Shamima Begum, whose citizenship was removed in February 2019.

The article focuses upon the perception of threat and fear, and how this may enable potential limitation of liberties or 'rights'. it refutes the notion that legal decision making and its public acceptance is based upon rational principles.
