Abstract

A whole host of famous names will be joining the University of Central Lancashire for its degree and awards ceremonies next week, giving the people of Preston a rare chance to do some celebrity-spotting.

Sir Norman Wisdom, actress Dora Bryan, golfer Lee Westwood and TV journalist Kate Adie are among those who will be receiving an Honorary Fellowship from the University, during the week of ceremonies lasting from Monday 8th to Friday 12th July.

Thousands of students will be presented with their degrees and awards during the week, watched by family and friends, in a series of ceremonies at Preston Guild Hall. Honorary Fellows will join with University dignitaries in a procession from the Guild Hall and down Friargate after each ceremony, giving local people an opportunity to take part in the celebrations. Processions will leave the Guild Hall at approximately 3.45pm on Monday 8th July, at 11.45am and 3.45pm on Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th July and at approximately 11.45am on Friday 12th July.

Honorary Fellowships, this year, will be awarded to:
On Monday 8 July pm--Marla Runyan, US Olympic Athlete
On Tuesday 9 July am--Lee Westwood, professional golfer; Kate Adie, journalist
On Wednesday 10 July am--Ross Shimmon, Secretary General of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions
On Thursday 11 July am-- Dora Bryan, actress; Phil Robson, Managing Director of NIS Invotec Ltd
On Thursday 11 July pm-- Sir Norman Wisdom, entertainer
On Friday 12 July am-- His Excellency Ma Zhengang, Ambassador of China; Sir Francis Kennedy, former diplomat and first Chancellor of the University
