Abstract

Students who don't get the A level results they were hoping for should stay calm and seek
advice as quickly as possible, according to the University of Central Lancashire which is
geared up to receive thousands of phone calls from students over the coming week.
Academic Registrar at the University, Lesley Munro, says, "Students entering the Clearing
process will find that there are still places available on many courses. There is no need to
panic- the most important thing to do is to stay calm and get advice as quickly as possible."
Dozens of staff at the Preston-based University will be working overtime this week and over
the weekend on a special helpline which will offer general advice as well as specific
information about places available at the University. The helpline number is Preston 01772
201201.
The University is also hosting two special advice weekends on August 161hll ih and August
23rd/241
h when it will be open to visitors. Tours of the campus, including accommodation, are
being offered every day from the 11th to the 291h August (excluding the bank holiday Monday)
and can be booked in advance on Preston 01772 894443, email opendays@uclan.ac.uk.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Alan Roff, says, "We are aware that this is a difficult time for those
people who have yet to secure a University place which is why we have put all these
arrangements in place. We still have places left on some of our courses and we would be
very happy to see those being taken up by local people who meet our entry requirements and
have not yet obtained a place elsewhere."
For more information about the Clearing process, people can log on to the University's
website at www.uclan.ac.uk.
