Abstract

TV presenter Johnny Ball wi ll be bringing us his own brand of popul ar maths and
science when he de li vers the Institute of Electri cal Engi neers Schools Lecture at the
University of Central Lancashire.
The lecture, hosted by the Lancashire and Cumbria Branch of the lEE, is aimed at
capturing the interest of school chi ldren and encouragi ng them to think about a career as
an engi neer. Several local companies and organisations have sponsored the event,
including BAe Systems, BNFL, Date! Defence, NWAA, the Learning and Skills
Co unci I and Lancashire Setpoint.
Johnny Ball is well known as a populariser of science and mathemati cs. His recent TV
_credi ts inc lude the BBC's "Think of a Number" and "Think Again" and he is also known
for his support of science and engineering education, whi ch includes school visits and
talks.
A selection of lucky school children from all across Lancashire have been invited to
take part in this memorab le event, whi ch takes place in the Uni versity's Harrington
Lecture Theatre on Tuesday 20th May.
