Abstract

St Wilfreds High School, Westholme School and Stoneyhurst College are among five
north west schools who will battle it out this week for a place in the national final of the
Institute of Physics Paperclip Physics Competition.
Six teams from across Lancashire and Cumbria will take part in the regional final of the
competition at the University of Central Lancashire on Wednesday 51
h March 2003.
Small teams of Year 11 and Year 12 pupils will each give a five-minute presentation on
some concept, principle or aspect of physics, so that is can be understood by a nonscientist.
DJ Martin Greenwood of Rock FM is the man the teams need to impress. He is the
non-scientist on the judging panel and is joined by professional physicist, Dr Ian
Ferguson, and Mr Keith Snape, a physics teacher at Newman College in Preston.
Paperclip Physics is an annual event for schools in the UK and Ireland. The winner of
this Lancashire and Cumbria final will compete in the final in London in April.
