UNIVERSITY chefs are dishing up a special 'big breakfast' to hundreds of
residents living near the doomed Moor Lane flats.
The 'blowdown special' is being offered to 300 people being evacuated from the
area on November 25 - the day the high-rises finally come down.
Veronica Holden, Head of Catering, has ordered 150 lbs of sausage and bacon to
satisfy hearty appetites on the day.
''Naturally we'll be serving up 'hangers' on the day they demolish the Moor
Lane flats. It really will be an explosive big breakfast," she said.
Shaun Whewell, Executive Head Chef, says he isn't worried about the logistics of
the gigantic fry-up.
"The more the merrier," he said, "as I much prefer catering to large numbers of
people as opposed to just one or two."
''Everyone will get a large bap filled with sausage and bacon and lots of tea and
coffee."
Veronica added: "We are very happy to do this- even though it means working
on a Sunday - as we always think of ourselves as very much part of the local
community.
"Some members of the public already use our restaurant but this is a chance to
show newcomers what we can do."
Later, residents will be offered a Sunday lunch of roast chicken and all the
trimmings.
Bolton firm WFL Demolition is bringing the high-rises down at around noon.
