Abstract

Application of effective human factors has now become accepted as an integral component of safe perioperative care. The patient safety film Just a routine operation (CHFG 2012) has become synonymous with failures in the human factors of communication, situational awareness, prioritisation and leadership during perioperative care. This article summarises some of the pertinent issues that were raised from reviewing the film during a human factors study day with medical students
