Abstract
This paper aims to explore a pattern of the nexus between donor aid motivations and national interests by aid types of grant and concessional loan. While the motivation of development aid can mainly fall into three main pillars of altruistic, political/diplomatic and commercial areas, four case donor countries, including South Korea, Japan, Germany and France, all showed a strong nexus patterns between aid motivations and national interests by linking their concessional loan aid to their commercial interests, while associating grant aid with political/diplomatic interests. In the end, the study suggests a further comparative study of donors who provide both grant and concessional loan aid between middle power donors and the world
powers.
