Abstract

The Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership (CVCL) is noted for its work in developing community cohesion and active citizenship projects at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). CVCL is a social enterprise that has delivered signifi- cant regional, national and international high-impact outcomes in the areas of youth development and community mentoring programmes alongside academic, vocational and bespoke Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses at UCLan. Its key functions are to encourage mentoring and community engagement, raise the aspira- tions of our students and increase access to opportunities for education and employment. The mission of CVCL is to ‘Empower, Engage and Enable’ students in the direct delivery of community projects. A particular project – the focus of this chapter – is the case study of UCLan Student Mentoring in the Community.
