Abstract
DITIS, as translated from ∆ΙΤΗΣ in Greek, stands for Networked Collaboration for Home Healthcare. The purpose of this chapter is to present an overview of DITIS, its goals and underlying architecture, and demonstrate how the system supports virtual collaborative healthcare teams for the home care of chronic patients through an illustrative scenario relating to the home care of cancer patients. The system architecture is discussed, as well as experiences and challenges in the present implementation of the system (DITIS phase I). DITIS was originally developed with a view to address the difficulties of communication and continuity of care between a home health care multidisciplinary team and between the team and the oncologist often hundreds of kilometres away. DITIS evolved to be much more than that. DITIS is currently in use in Cyprus, with current plans addressing commercialisation.
