This performance explores 'research into practice' by drawing on and practically demonstrating techniques developed by the three practictioners(Pikes, Pardo and Wise) central to my doctoral studies. Based on the poetry of Ted Hughes, 'The Badlands' (1998) is from a collection entitled The Birthday Letters written for his wife Sylvia Plath. This non-narrative performance gives existential aesthetic expession to Hughes vision of the nature of our contemporary postmodern existence. All of the voices explored during the performance both recorded and live were developed as part of the research process and were created solely by Amy Rome.
