Abstract
Sciatica results from irritation or compression of the nerve root in the lumbosacral spine. Its symptoms include pain, numbness and tingling, which can extend down the back of the leg to the toes (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), 2015). The provision of adequate pain relief is a key aspect of the management of sciatica.
