Abstract

'Inside Outside' was included on the Kinokophonography Compilation CD among 9 other slected artists. (supported by ACE)
The emphasis of “Inside Outside” is on the relationship between the recordist and the acoustic surroundings and the process of deep listening of the environment around. The field recordings collected over course of few late, lonely evenings form the basis for the composition. Recorded with binaural ear microphones, they are a mix of acoustic traces of presences within 20 square meters of remote domestic location in Poland.

The audio content of the wider macro soundscapes of outside such as: night cicadas, distance dog barking, fireworks interwoven with the micro, indoor sounds of the rhythmic clock ticking, cat purring and the heartbeat of the recorderist.

The question asked is how sound affects the way we construct our personal memory of a place, but also how new narratives can be presented to a listener who has never experienced the location.

About Kinokophonography (project supported by ACE)
Kinokophone launched Kinokophonography in 2010 to help cultivate a forum through which recordists can inspire, intrigue and reveal through the stories that sounds can tell. Kinokophongraphy is a curated listening event that features audio works from around the world. It is a unique public gathering in celebration of the sounds around us and an exploration of the experience of listening. Through Kinokophonography, we hope to incite the production of new recordings, innovative audio production techniques and artistic collaborations.

This CD includes tracks submitted to Kinokophongraphy between 2010 and 2015. It is packaged in a jewel case and features original artwork by T.S. Selm. Funds from the sale of this CD will go towards the development of future Kinokophonography events and to the artists featured on the compilation.
