Mark Parkinson is an artist working across a range of media including paintings, drawings, print and installations. He has been a working artist since 1997. He works out of Preston, where he currently resides.
His practice is reliant on the use of colour and light, juxtaposed with metaphors from urban and constructed landscapes. This is an attempt place down markers within an ever shifting contemporary landscape.
Living on inner city estates has heavily influences his work, drawing on experiences, memories and a sense of place, within it notions of working class identity. The imagery in his work is driven by responses to situations and cognition.
His latest paintings use geometric shapes and colour to investigate fear, anxiety, stress and the constraints of living within these estates, the memories that taint his past and effect our futures
