Abstract
Invisible Strategies brings together a wide range of Himid’s paintings from the 1980s to the present day as well as ceramics and works on paper. Containing many works shown for the first time in decades alongside pieces never-before seen in a public gallery as well as new work made for this exhibition.
This exhibition engages with the conversations which can take place between audiences for art and artists it argues that visitors bringing their own histories to the showing space can create new dialogues through the art work especially those pieces made using found objects. Many of the works in the show also depicted black women engaged in strategic conversations there by creating a space for black audiences while filling the gaps in the written histories.
