Abstract

This artwork emerged from the process of engaging with a group of men who care for a loved one at home.
It took the form of an interactive sculpture constructed from two 1930s ‘Gentleman’s’ wardrobes, enabling audiences to sit inside and listen to audio recordings of the everyday lives of the men involved; including a poem about caring for someone with dementia.
In 2018, the interactive sculpture was exhibited alongside the work of the current Turner Prize winning artist Lubaina Himid at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston in April 2018.
The male carers were proud to experience their work in a gallery setting.
While you need to experience the sculpture through physically engaging with it, this video offers a glimpse of what it’s like to sit inside and hear the recordings of life as a male carer.
Copyright of this video is owned by the artist William Titley.
