Abstract

A week long interactive installation in Colne Town Hall, Colne, Lancashire.
The Time Machine was filled with the sounds of the local community inspire by their personal memories of particular songs.

Each memory evoked by a particular soundtrack, takes the person back to a moment when they were different people, in a different space and time. The audio enables a kind of leapfrogging over decades of everyday life experiences, to reveal how individual and cultural memory resonates in the shaping of social space, and the soundscape’s deep connection to place.

The event was free to the public and engaged with over 200 people.
Feedback was gathered using stereo audio interviews, some samples are available on this repository.
