Abstract

The drawing 'The Other' was acquired by Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery.
The image is made up of 100 traced photographs taken during walks around the Punjabi cultural city of Lahore, Pakistan.

This exhibition of non-western art aims to raise the profile of artists referencing the traditions, focusing on works by artists with South Asian heritage. Light, Passion & Darkness presents paintings, craft, photography and digital art, including works by international artists such as Dhruva Mistry, Imran Qureshi and Abdus Shakoor alongside established UK artists including Sutapa Biswas, Shezad Dawood, Neeta Madahar, Shanti, Panchal and Saleem Arif Quadri; as well as works by a new generation of artists including Halima Cassell and Tanvi Kant.

The works in the exhibition are from the following public collections: Atkinson Art Gallery, Southport; Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery; Gallery Oldham; Grosvenor Museum, Chester; Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Preston; Touchstones Rochdale .

The exhibition is a partnership project between Touchstones Rochdale, Gallery Oldham, Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery and Shisha, the international agency for contemporary South Asian crafts and visual arts.
