Abstract

In response to the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework, a study of the possibilities for housing provision within Stockport town centre. The document demonstrates, firstly that there is much land available in British towns to build upon, and secondly that implementing housing projects on this land is possible. "Build in the town" is fine as an abstract statement, but can it be done, and just what is achievable? The ideas were offered to council members in the hope that they would stimulate some action on sustainable communities and civilized urban living. It is pleasing to see some progress now in Stockport.
