Abstract

Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopy are being widely applied as sensor-based techniques in oncology, particularly in the diagnosis of brain cancers and their subtypes, due to their critical severity. Overtime, these techniques have become more sensitive; nowadays, accuracies of over 90% have been observed in several studies. This is a good indication of their potential for real clinical implementation. Herein, we present a mini-review by revisiting some fundamentals of FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy along with their applications towards brain cancer detection in the literature.
