Abstract

In the present work, silver nanoparticles supported on magnetic nano-chitosan were prepared using the rachis extract of Vitis labrusca. Among the 12 principles of green chemistry, use of renewable feed stock obtained from agricultural waste can be a potential source of chemicals. In this context, the rachis (fruit stalk) of Vitis labrusca are used as potential source of phytochemicals and used for reduction of silver nanoparticles supported on magnetic nano-chitosan (Cs-Ag/Fe2O3 nanoparticles). The presence of phytochemicals such as resevetrol, rutin and quercetin-3-O-glucoside were identified using liquid chromatography with mass spectrum detector. These phytochemicals act as reducing and capping agents while the nano-chitosan act as stabilizers, avoids agglomeration of nanoparticles and nano ferric oxide assist in easy recovery. The synthesized Cs-Ag/Fe2O3 nanoparticles are characterized by fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. Thermogravimetric anlysis was carried out to study the stability of synthesized Cs-Ag/Fe2O3 nanoparticles. The synthesized Cs-Ag/Fe2O3 nanoparticles were used as hybrid nanocatalyst in reduction of 4-nitrophenol, 4-nitrotoluene and 2-nitroaniline monitored by UV–Visible spectrophotometer and reduced product was confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic spectra (1H NMR).
