Abstract

This chapter offers some reflections on the development of different types of settings and focuses on the potential of new and emerging settings presented as three case studies. These case studies offer fresh perspectives and renewed efforts to developing the settings-based approach with new and emerging settings while responding to contemporary issues that relate to health and well-being. Examples of these are set out and include the development of healthy airports with action through intersectoral governance approaches; places of worship as ‘nested’ settings and central in communities and the paradox of health and the coast for developing healthy coastal communities in the UK, post the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter proposes that most settings have the potential to be health promoting while recognising the challenges this may entail.
