Abstract
This proposal was commissioned by the BFI to address the lack of diversity and representation within British Animation series. In previous research I have identified a need for more women to be in key creative roles within the animation industry to ensure that there is realistic representation exists for women and young girls. This proposal addresses this through character design, storyline, script and setting. Research into storylines was conduced through the Pauline Quirk acting academy - a franchise with groups here in the North West to ensure that the storylines and characters were reflective of the lives of girls and women living here. The series is set in the North West with references to cultural events, language and cultural identity. The series was funded by the BFI Young Audience Content Award and is currently waiting for further funding to develop the series further. The budget for the commission allowed for a pitch document containing character designs, backgrounds, character biographies and storylines, researcher, producer, production manager, writer, media lawyer and script editor.
