Abstract

Using Lubaina Himid’s collaborative practice as a starting point, the artist and her long-time collaborators have been invited to jointly explore sound and its disruptive qualities.
This event, through initial discussion with Lubaina Himid, Magda Stawarska-Beavan and Christine Eyene, explored sonic practices with three listening sessions from Ain Bailey, Magda Stawarska-Beavan and Emeka Ogboh, which have been developed specifically for this programme.

Magda Stawarska-Beavan presented 4 sound pieces including Ida 2022, Resonating Silence 2018, East {hyphen} West 2015 and Inside Outside 2015. 40 minutes presentation showing the breadth of her collaborative approach to sound practice.

Throughout the afternoon, the audience heard Sonic Stories from Lubaina Himid, Magda Stawarska-Beavan, Christine Eyene and Emeka Ogboh. Sonic Stories is an ongoing project from Ain Bailey, which explores the idea of a ‘lifetime soundtrack’ or sonic autobiography, and the role that sound plays in identity formation.
