Children and young people with atypical communication in healthcare

Abstract

The chapters in the second part of the book focus primarily on working with children and families. This part of the book reflects the expertise of different practitioners exploring the challenges of triadic consultations, where different expectations and levels of communication are simultaneously present. Issues around participation, consent, and engagement frequently arise when working with children and families, and the presence of atypical communication can create further complexity. Part II, therefore, provides an entire tool kit for those who practise with this population, providing case examples, practical tips, and guidance for how to establish meaningful conversations.
