Abstract
Teetotalism as a lifeboat, saving people from the dangers of drink, was a common image from the early days of the movement. The Band of Hope Review in 1899 provided this example, of children merrily rowing the lifeboat which can draw on a potential teetotal crew of over 6 million abstainers.
