Moving With Conference Workshop

Abstract

A Workshop in 3 parts:
Part 1: A screening of Moving With Moving With, an 8 minute film that shows dance artist, Lucy Nicholson and her son Benji respond creatively with movement to their local environment on their regular dance walks in around Staveley, Lake District, Cumbria. The screening will be followed by a quick practical try with the participants to view something around them, do a quick analysis of its movement potential and collectively we’ll put a sequence of movement together based on those observations.
Part 2: A mindful walk in the outside space, participants (guided by Lucy) will quietly walk with a partner to notice their local landscape, choosing a number of significant things in their vicinity that they analyse and convert to movement expressions. This section of the workshop with culminate in a safe and supported sharing of the movement that they collected from outside.
Part 3: A Q&A session led by Lucy Nicholson that allows firstly reflections on the participant experience and clarifications of the process and underpinning practice of the original work, offering insight into the engagement workshops that have taken place in local schools and how the work could be integrated into other outdoor provision.
