Abstract

The Band of Hope taught millions of children in schools, under the Scientific Temperance Teaching Scheme, and children gained certificates and prizes for essays on the subject. In 1912, the date of this certificate, there were 4,256 lessons to 16,422 teachers and 386,888 scholars in 761 towns, cities and villages (annual report, p.10).
