Abstract
These reports and appeals from Onward in 1902/3 talk of plans to erect a new building for the Lancashire and Cheshire Band of Hope at a projected cost of £12,000. It was built between 1903-1905, at an eventual cost of £15,000, all of which was raised by supporters – and it still stands today.

On behalf of Temperance Teaching in Schools and the erection of Band of Hope Headquarters in Manchester.

* In some cases friends are giving the whole of their contribution at one time. In others, they are spreading the payment over a period, in view of the Department effort devoted to the promotion of Temperance Teaching in the Schools. In addition to these, various Band of Hope Unions are promoting the effort, and, in their respective areas, seeking to realise

We hear also of splendid arrangements being made by individual societies to ensure that their contribution shall not be less than fifteen pence per head of their membership. For example, one Band of Hope has appointed a number of young ladies connected with it to personally

and upon past members to secure weekly contributions for the effort. Other societies are pushing the collections by means of

obtained from the Counties’ offices. Some are taking advantage of the special terms offered for Cinematograph and Phonograph Exhibitions on behalf of the effort.
Recently, such entertainments have realised from £3 to £4 clear, after the payment of all expenses for operator, room, printing, etc. Such sums naturally go to augment the Societies’ totals. Very much more could be got, and that without difficulty, if

went in pairs instead of singly, and at the time of their call emphasised the absolute necessity, if the future men and women of these counties are to be sober, industrious and thrifty, that the must direct, well-organised Band of Hope effort should be promoted to-day.
For such direct and definite work there must necessarily be suitable headquarters. In seeking to secure these, the Committee are not only following the example of such bodies as the National Band of Hope Union, the Sunday School Union, the Religious Tract Society, and others, but they are also helping to give that public prominence
