Abstract
Rudolf Borisovich Barshai (1924-2010) – a legendary musician of the second half of the twentieth century – was a world-renowned violist, conductor and composer-orchestrator. One was very lucky to get a ticket for Barshai's concerts. His tireless activity, the versatility of the creative scope of his interests continue to amaze and delight today even those generations who, due to their age, are familiar with Barshai's work only from recordings available on the Internet. Nevertheless, for many years since the late 1970s, the name of R. Barshai and his achievements remained in the shadows in his homeland. The analysis in this chapter brings to light previously unknown facts of Barshai's legacy. The discussion of these subjects rely on recent archival findings.
