Naturally occurring mixtures of huntite and hydromagnesite have unexpectedly high leveles of fire retardancy when compared to alumium hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide in ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. This is ascribed to the platy nature of the huntite, which prevents escape of fuel.
