Abstract

Drawing on research undertaken in a social services department in England this article examines the nature of the initial training for assessors in care management and considers the extent to which it has proved appropriate. The authors maintain that differing conceptual models of the care management task have influenced the way in which training needs have been perceived. Research findings are used to identify complex aspects of the care management task which needs to be assessed by future training programmes.
