Abstract

This lantern slide set focuses on the health-giving benefits of milk, challenging the myth that beer gave strength. Milk was frequently compared directly with alcoholic drinks, although many drinkers may not have considered milk as an alternative.

Lantern Slide part of the Milk Series claiming milk as the most desirable beverage after an impressive sporting feat.

"Sullivan swam the Channel on MILK
'I had only one meal during the swim, and some hot water. ...All I had was some egg and milk at 8.50 Sunday night.
'When I landed at Calais my greatest desire was for a quart or more of milk. It is the one thing that always satisfies me after a strenuous swim' - Henry Sullivan's statement after his 27-hour Channel Swim"
