Abstract
After having her own child, local student Georgina Hornby was so inspired by the level
of nursing care she received that she decided to join the profession herself. She recently
swapped her uniform for a cap and gown when she graduated with a Diploma in Adult
Nursing from the University of Central Lancashire.
Georgina, from Morris Road, Upholland was watched by proud son James, aged 6, as
she collected her award at a special ceremony at the Preston Guildhall.
She is currently working as a staff nurse on the orthopaedic surgery ward at Southport
Hospital, but is still looking for an area in which to specialise, having enjoyed all her
student work placements.
"I really like the job", she says. "Having my son James sparked things off because I
had an excellent health visitor who told me all about nursing."
Georgina is eventually hoping to return to study for a nursing degree at the university in
Preston. She was one of the many graduating nurses receiving well-deserved accolades
at the Faculty of Health Awards Ceremony.
