Abstract

Dunstable student Kate West is enjoying a year-long stay in the United States, living and studying at California State University, Fresno.

Kate, 19, a former pupil of Queensbury Upper School is in the second year of a degree course in Audio Visual Media Studies with Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston. She is currently taking part in the University's very popular exchange programme, living on campus in the USA with students from all over the world.

Kate is having a fabulous time in Fresno, working hard at the University and playing hard. She has travelled to San Francisco, Los Angeles, hiked in Yosemite National Park and is enjoying the international culture, as well as the American way of life.

''The US is as I imagined it", she says. "It's big with lots of fast food places and very friendly people. I would also encourage anyone to go on an exchange. It has opened my eyes to so many new cultures, not just the US and I now have friends from all over the world.

Kate should be returning to Preston next summer, for the final year of her course.
