Abstract
With graduation in sight, art, design and technology students at the University of Central
Lancashire have been busy getting ready for a fmal display of their work, at the end of
year Degree Show.
In Arts Week 2002, there will be a stunning collection of art, fine art, fashion design,
graphic design and 3D design (including ceramics, jewellery, tableware and sculpture),
much of which has been created by students from the north west.
The students themselves will be on hand to discuss and explain their pieces, hoping to
attract interest from potential employers and sponsors as well as the public, who are
welcome to attend.
Preston designer Bernie Blackburn, who studied as a mature student on the furniture
design course, has produced a range of furniture and lighting based on the idea of using
double-glazed units, similar to those used in windows. Sealed within the units are
'decorative' objects, giving each piece of furniture its own 'theme'. Bernie, 36, from Lea
has used the ideas gained from his former life, when he worked as a signwriter and also
had his own stained glass business.
Bernie's designs, along with a range of others, equally interesting and unique, can be
viewed up to Saturday 15 June in the Victoria and Hanover Buildings, at the University
of Central Lancashire. The Exhibitions are open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm daily and
until 7.00 pm on 11/12/13 June. For further information, please contact 01772 893164 or
