Abstract
Cork student Lisa Purnell has just received £200 for outstanding academic performance
on her course at the University of Central Lancashire.
Lisa, 30, who originally hails from Aherla, but now lives in Lancashire, is currently in
the second year of a Combined Honours degree in Web and Multimedia Studies and
Information Systems at the University. She received an Ede and Ravenscroft Prize for
achieving top marks in the first year of her course.
A former pupil at Ballincollig Community School, Lisa currently juggles her studies with
a full-time job in the University Advancement Office. She moved to the UK in 1991
after meeting husband Roy, who comes from Chorley in Lancashire.
Ede and Ravenscroft are suppliers of academic gowns to University staff and students for
the annual award ceremonies. Each year a number of cash awards are made available for
students on the Combined Honours' courses who have performed particularly well on
their courses.
Lisa is full of praise for the help she has received from University staff. When she has
completed her degree, she hopes to move into the area of web design.
"I wouldn't have got through without the support of my family, my lecturers and an
understanding manager", she says.
