Abstract
Lancashire nurse Alan Bates originally wanted to become a teacher, until a temping job
as an auxiliary gave him a taste of the nursing profession and prompted him to change
career.
Now a qualified Mental Health Nurse, Alan is celebrating his success in winning one of
the Lancashire Priory Nursing Awards, presented every year to mental health nursing
students at the University of Central Lancashire.
Alan is currently working on the male acute admissions ward in Blackpool Victoria
Hospital and married to Karen, a Community Learning Difficulties Nurse in Kirkham.
Alan's award, a certificate and a cheque for £250, was sponsored by the Lancashire
Priory Hospital, part of the Priory Healthcare Group, the leading provider of private acute
mental healthcare in the UK.
