Abstract
Top student and dedicated nurse Patricia Whalley was recently presented with the
Abacus Care Award at a ceremony held at the University of Central Lancashire in
Preston.
Patricia, from Burnley, a student in the University's Faculty of Health, currently works as
a Day Surgery Manager at Rochdale Infirmary. The Award is made on an annual basis
by Abacus Care (Preston and Fylde), a prestigious local nursing agency specialising in
continuing care nursing.
A nurse all her life, Patricia decided to take a nursing degree after the birth of her
youngest child, in order to further her career.
''The degree has helped me to obtain a better understanding of policies and the
dynamics ofhealthcare", she says.
