Abstract
With the internet already being used to deliver education and training to thousands of
people, it seems a logical step to offer this opportunity to university students who would
find it difficult or inconvenient to study on campus.
Students at the University of Central Lancashire can now follow in the footsteps of their
American cousins and study for two new postgraduate certificates entirely on-line. The
Postgraduate Certificates in Employment Law and Environmental Law are aimed at
professionals and aspiring professionals who want to improve their knowledge of these
areas, but do not have a law degree.
Scholarships and bursaries to help towards the cost of study are now available for both
courses, which are due to start in February and students are encouraged to send in their
applications immediately.
Course tutor Andrew Culley says: "Few institutions in this country offer full e-learning
courses, compared with the USA, where the courses have proved very popular.
Students will be given the chance to discuss their work with one another during a
regular 'real-time' discussion and by means of an electronic bulletin board. A course
like this offers real flexibility for students who would find it difiicult to come on
campus " .
