Abstract
Measham graduate Jonathan Smith enjoyed studying sports and psychology at school,
so it was only natural that he should choose a degree combining his two favourite
subjects at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.
Jonathan, 21, a former pupil of Ashby Grammar School, recently graduated with an
upper second class honours degree in sports psychology. A keen footb all player, he
was able to put his knowledge to good use in his final year project, which looked at the
influence of crowd noise on the decisions made by referees.
"I was lucky enough to combine my Jove of football with a growing interest in
psychology," says Jonathan. "I enjoyed every bit of the course; it was hard work, but
the tutors were very supportive and I was able to view both subject areas from different
angles."
Jonathan is now taking a break from his studies before deciding what to do next. "I'm
hoping to take a masters degree and eventually work in sports psychology," he says.
