Abstract

Lahore was the original capital of Punjab until Partition in 1947, after which the Indian side of the Punjab lost their capital city to the newly established Pakistan. The Indian government immediately set out to replace what was considered to be their cultural centre by building what is reputed to be the crowning glory of the architect Le Corbusier: Chandigarh was born, an experiment of master planning.
