Abstract
Student journalists from all over Europe are invited to join the campaign to kick racism
out of football.
The University of Central Lancashire is setting up a website on behalf of the European
Journalism Training Association, where student journalists can send in stories, both
good and bad, involving racism and football in a multi-racial Europe.
The project is being launched to tie in with this week's 'Kick It Out' campaign, which
involves all92 English and Welsh clubs in a series of events designed to combat racism
in our national sport.
Journalism lecturer Alan Rawlinson is co-ordinating the website: "Preston North End,
the Football League and UEFA all agree that football can have an effect on racism, and
they're taking action to make it a positive one. But football and racism hasn't always
been good news, and in some places it still isn't. I want student journalists to
investigate the good and the bad, and share the stories they discover with other
European students, academics -perhaps the rest of the world. They can do it if we
publish the stories on a website and we can all learn from that."
