Abstract

The University of Central Lancashire is making use of the latest cyber technology to confer
an Honorary Fellowship upon William Woodruff, at a unique virtual ceremony when it links
up with the University of Florida for this very special occasion.
William Woodruff is a world historian whose works are deposited in the "Woodruff
Collection" in the University library. His academic writings deal with the changes in world
history and world economy- especially the impact of Europe- during the past five hundred
years. Woodruff's memoir, ''The Road to Nab End" describes his childhood in Lancashire,
with all its joys and sorrows and became a bestseller when the author was in his eighties. The
sequel, "Beyond Nab End", has been received with equal acclaim.
Making the video link on next week*, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Alan Roff will make the
introduction on behalf of the University of Central Lancashire and the Dean of Faculty Dr
Daniel Lamont will read a citation to confer the award. After the citation William Woodruff
will be robed by the Dean of On-line Learning at Mercy College, New York and be
presented with his certificate and a commemorative plate carrying the University of Central
Lancashire crest.
The latest in a long line of distinguished Fellows, William Woodruff will then respond to the
citation across the airwaves to Preston and be welcomed "to the fold" by prior Honorary
Fellow Malcolm Rae.
Members of the University Board, Academic Board, and Honorary Fellows will view the
ceremony on-line in UK and USA.
