HEARD THE ONE ABOUT
ABOUT THE SUN-BATHING
RABBIT WHO NEARLY 'DOUG'
HIS OWN GRAVE?
A LAID-BACK pet rabbit called Doug was reunited with his tearful eight-yearold
owner after going AWOL for several days.
The grey-coloured, floppy-eared rabbit was discovered sun-bathing on a
university car park.
And had it not been for the quick thinking of university administrator Janet
Comes - who found him lying on the tarmac - it is likely that Doug would have
been flattened.
"It was a lovely sunny morning and he was just lying there enjoying the nice
weather," said Janet.
"Cars were coming and going but he seemed oblivious to them all. So I picked
him up and brought him into the office where I work."
After putting up posters in and around the area and placing an advert in the
Lancashire Evening Post his grateful owners eventually turned up to claim the
rabbit.
Rose .Jones - who lives on the Leighton Street caravan site next to the university
car park - spotted a poster and recognised Doug as her daughter Tina's missing
pet.
She said: "Tina left him on a verge to eat the grass and was absolutely
heartbroken when he wandered off. She loves Doug, who is named after her
uncle, and is delighted to have him back."
• Rose has agreed that Tina may be photographed with Doug.
